Conventions of TV Drama

Director: Ben Palmer
Writers: Damon Beesley and Iain Morris
Producer: Christopher Young

The show was aired on channel 4, Thursday at 10.00 pm. The characters for the intbetweeners play heavily on stereo types. For example the main character Will, is a typical geek, he speaks poshely, wears glasses and lacks social skills.

The programme is also stereotyping teenage boys in general as the series is based around a group desperate for girls, drink and parties. This is part of the humour as the target audience can relate to the characters on screen. As the first episode centers around Will's first day, he is narrating the programme. This style is often present in TV drama comedies such as Scrubs and The Office. The camera shots are very pain, sticking to Medium Shots and Close ups making the show more personal and plain, without creative camera movements. The characters although weird are becoming icons for teenagers, they aren't cool, but they're unique and funny to watch.

High angle shots are used to make Will seem smaller thus making the situations he gets into (facing bully's) funnier and more exaggerated. "Mise en Scene" is important during this program as t shows where the scene takes place and also the atmosphere at the time, this is done through use of props and lighting.

The music is modern and lighthearted mirroring the program itself and also appealing to the audience.

The narrative of the show is faced paced, keeping the audiences' interest and staying within the style of the genre.

This is a screen shot from the Channel 4 drama "1066". We can tell it's a costume drama by the traditional Viking outfits as worn by the actors. The lighting is dark and cold, mirroring the expressions on the characters faces. The  lighting reflects the atmosphere of the scene indicating that something bad is about to happen . The character on the left has an aggressive look on his face showing his determination most likely for an act of violence. The character on the right looks reserved (due to the crossed arms) possibly suggesting a conflict between the characters later on. The shot is low angle making the characters seem more powerful and dominant. The background is blurred to make the characters stand out so that the audience focuses solely on them. The character on the left is looking directly at the camera, making an impact on the audience and possibly intimidating them.
